Lochore Meadows |
2000 |
Lochore Meadows Country Park is built on land that was once covered
in coal mine waste. Situated in what was once Fife's industrial
heartland, Lochore Meadows is a fine example of industrial wasteland
being put to a new use. |

Lochore Meadows |
?? |
Tucked away in the shrubs near the entrance to the Ranger Office at
Lochore meadows is a very small memorial to a momentous event which
signalled the beginning of the end of the Scottish mining industry.
The inscription reads: "Erected by the Scottish people in
recognition of the struggle by Fife miners and their families during
the year long strike, 1984- 1985." |

country park. |

Lochore Meadows |
2003 |
The ancient ruins of the castle at the entrance to Lochore Meadows
Country Park which attracts tens of thousands of visitors every
year. The second photo is an earlier view of the same scene with
the River Ore on the left.
The 3rd is an artist impression of the castle resting in the Loch
waters.

Lochore Colliery, Mary Pit |
1905 |
The site of the Mary No. 2 shaft is marked by its reinforced
concrete, pithead frame and winding gear monument. It is one of only
two such structures in Fife serving to remind the public of the
Kingdom's great mining history. You can also see the images on the
Mary 1 & 2 pits, Chapel Home Farm and the smouldering bing,
which will give you an idea what this area was like before the
Meadows reclamation project started. The Mary Pit was named after
the wife of Charles Carlow, who was the mine owner.
1902 - Dunfermline Journal newspaper ::
"Another step has been taken in connection with the
development of the minerals of Beath and Ballingry. The first sod of
a great new pit, which is to be sunk by the Fife Coal Company
Limited in the basin of the Lochore Coalfield, was cut on Saturday.
. . by Mrs Carlow, the wife of the managing director of the Company.
The pit is one about halfway between Lochore Castle and Benarty Hill
and near to the solum of the deep loch which was drained fully a
century ago. The pit is expected to be 28 feet by 11 feet, and it is
expected that it will reach a depth of 300 fathoms before Aitken
navigation Splint coal is struck." |

Ballingry |
2001 |
There has been a church in Ballingry since the 12th Century. The
bell on top of the church is dated 1658. The date on one of the
graves was 1746. The church is still in use today and has been
extended and refurbished over the years. |

Update on content
::
Our search for new content started Jan 05.
To date our plea thru the website and at meetings has
not produced anything, which is very disappointing given the history and
special people who have touched our hearts at Lodge 1183.
Please help us to build up the gallery as a story
board of the area, the great people we remember and the cultural changes over the
decades.
:: HELP !!! ::
Can you help identify anyone in our photo's -
